False Alarm

At approximately 10:30 on Thursday, February 4th an odour we believed to be natural gas was detected in the gym area.  Concerned that this gas was a threat to student and staff safety, the fire alarm was pulled and the school was immediately evacuated.  The fire department responded quickly and they launched into testing the gas smell.  Within a short time they determined this gas smell was not dangerous.  Everyone returned to regular classes.

We would like to thank students, staff and emergency officials for their cooperation and calm approach to this situation.  It is a true testament to the planning and practice we do to ensure everyones safety.

This mandatory provincial test is written by students who are in grade 10, and by students who have yet to complete this diploma requirement.  If there is any question about whether a student should be writing the test this year please contact Ms. Dale in the main office as soon as possible.

The Immunization of School Pupil's Act

Important Message from Waterloo Public Health

Region of Waterloo Public Health is required to collect and analyze immunization records of all children attending school in Waterloo Region. We do this to ensure the immunization status of all children in the event of a vaccine preventable disease outbreak.

The Immunization of School Pupils Act requires students to be immunized against tetanus, diphtheria, polio, measles, mumps and rubella. These records of immunization must be provided to Public Health. With appropriate legal documentation, exemptions based on medical or conscience reasons are allowed. If students do not provide the immunization record or legal exemption to Public Health, they may face suspension from school for up to 20 days or until the documentation is completed and received.

In early March 2010, Public Health will send a notice home to those students with incomplete records. This notice will request that complete immunization records be provided to Public Health. If you receive one of these letters, please respond as soon as you can.

If you have any questions, please contact our Vaccine Preventable Diseases Program at 519-883-2006 ext. 5273.

Thank you for your cooperation.
